Although screen reading technology has existed for mobile devices for quite some time, one difficulty faced by the blind is accessing the mobile device with some degree of privacy. sure, a headset can be used, or speech volume turned down, but this often isn’t convenient, or feasible depending on background noise, etc…. Admittedly, not all blind people are braille readers, but this recent announcement by Nokia certainly has the potential to help many. And, unless I’m reading it wrong, it’s free! Assuming, of course that one has the correct Nokia phone model.
I’d like to thank @digitaldarragh on Twitter for originally alerting me to this, he’s kindly posted some additional links on the subject including one to the software on the Nokia betalabs site.
What do people think? What implications could this have?
